Massage and Bodywork

What is Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)?
       Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT)?

This is a highly specialized treatment for post-operative and venous insufficiency clients who have an excess or firm accumulation of lymphatic fluid (swelling).  This technique utilizes feather light pumping strokes to assist in the movement of lymphatic fluid to secondary pathways.  Decongestive Therapy is used in combination with MLD in the treatment of a clinical condition known as Lymphedema.  This technique includes skin care and uses Compression Bandaging to maintain and control swelling between sessions in preparation for fitting of Compression Garments.

Treatment is provided to areas of fibrosis (tissue density) and surgical scars to soften and lengthen scar tissue for the improvement of joint mobility and reduction of pain and swelling.  This may include custom localized compression pads in conduction with massage and manual therapy techniques.  We also carry a line of scar care products from cream to silicone pads to soften and improve the look and feel of post surgical scars.

Ruth Coopee received her certification in the Dr. Vodder method through the North American Vodder School International in May 1997.  Since completion she has had experience in the treatment of lower extremity venous insufficiency and wound management, post mastectomy and primary lymphedema rehabilitation.

What is Medical Massage?

Medical Massage focuses on the treatment of injury either past or recent to reduce muscle spasm, pain and edema.  It works gently to reestablish proper circulation and structural alignment to restore the health of soft tissue and help the individual to resume daily activity.

Ruth received her Certification in Massage Therapy from Salter College in 2006 and National Certification in 2011.

“Zero Balancing was developed by Fritz Smith, MD, and has its roots in osteopathy, acupuncture, Rolfing, and meditation. Relaxing, yet energizing, Zero Balancing integrates fundamental principles of Western medicine with Eastern concepts of energy. This technique provides clients the possibility of healing by addressing the energy flow of the skeletal system. By working with bone energy, zero balancing seeks to correct imbalances between energy and structure, providing relief from pain, anxiety, and stress. A Zero Balancing session consists of gentle acupressure focusing on joints and bones is performed through the client’s clothing while they lie on a massage table." (excerpt from ZBA website)
Ruth Coopee has been studying and integrating Zero Balancing into her work and life since 2000 and is a Certified Zero Balancing Practitioner.

This technique has gained increased awareness with the recent Olympics as seen on the Beach Volleyball players "black tape" and on many popular athletes.  It made its appearance from Japan to the USA in 1995 and Ruth has been practicing this technique since its arrival.  One of the original instructors of "Kinesio Taping" she is known around the World for its use in the treatment of Lymphedema.  In addition Elastic Taping is successful in the treatment of many orthopedic and neurological conditions.  It relieves swelling/pain and helps to support joints at rest and during movement. The elastic recoil of the tape helps weak muscles to improve posture and improve normal movement patterns.    Ruth continues to teach on a national and international level.  Online courses available at

Ruth Coopee has had training in a variety of whole body, gentle techniques to work with the neurological, structural, muscular and energy systems of the body.  She integrates all of these in an atmosphere of peacefulness to restore the spirit.
